Building More Efficient Academic Operations
St. Louis Community College (STLCC) believes education has the power to transform individuals, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for the future. To support that mission, the college continually evaluates how its academic processes can better serve faculty, staff, and students.
As part of that effort, STLCC examined the time and resources required to maintain its academic catalog and curriculum. The review revealed that manual processes and disconnected systems were creating unnecessary work, increasing the risk of errors, and slowing curriculum updates.
Replacing Manual Processes
Before implementing CourseLeaf, STLCC maintained its academic catalog through a manual process while relying on a separate vendor for curriculum management. Maintaining both systems required significant manual effort and duplicated work.
According to Vaughn, the process had become increasingly difficult to sustain.
"So much time was being spent manually entering in data. Due to that process, there was a greater propensity for error. Our team knew there had to be a partner that could provide us with an automated solution that was customized for our specific needs with our catalog and curriculum management," said Vaughn.
The college recognized that improving academic operations required more than simply replacing software. It needed a solution that could automate routine work while supporting STLCC's unique academic processes.
Finding the Right Fit
As STLCC evaluated potential solutions, the team found that many products were expensive, difficult to use, or lacked the flexibility the college required.
Faculty adoption was also an important consideration. The college wanted a system that would make it easier for faculty to propose, review, and approve curriculum changes without adding unnecessary complexity.
After evaluating multiple vendors, STLCC selected CourseLeaf CAT and CIM.
"The standout for us was CourseLeaf's ability to customize their software to fit our team's needs. The cost was right on point and the ease of usability was unparalleled in our industry," said Vaughn.
Supporting Faculty Through Better Technology
From implementation onward, STLCC found that training, ongoing support, and access to CourseLeaf's implementation team helped faculty and staff transition quickly to a more automated process.
By reducing manual work and simplifying curriculum management, the college created a more efficient workflow while giving faculty greater confidence in the accuracy of academic information.
Reflecting on the results, Vaughn said,
"It's automated and accurate. We can make updates and changes quickly, and if we have new faculty that needs training, the CourseLeaf team can step in and help guide our users. They are a great partner that has made our faculty much happier!"
Creating a Stronger Foundation
Today, STLCC benefits from academic catalog and curriculum management processes that are more efficient, more accurate, and easier for faculty and staff to manage.
By replacing manual workflows with connected academic operations, the college has reduced administrative effort, improved collaboration, and created a stronger foundation for supporting future academic initiatives.
